September 20, 2025, Pittstown, NJ:

The congregation of Quakertown Monthly Meeting supports the lawsuit filed against the Department of Homeland Security concerning DHS’s ability to enter places of worship.

This lawsuit was &led by various Quaker groups (Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, Baltimore, New England and New York Yearly Meetings, Adelphi and Richmond Monthly Meetings) as well as other Christian, Unitarian Universalist, Jewish, and Sikh organizations. The suit seeks to deny the ability of federal immigration agents to enter our places of worship in order to take enforcement actions against any part of our community.

Brad Gilbert, clerk of Quakertown Monthly Meeting, says that the members are happy to support the freedom to worship, which is fundamental to our history and practice as Quakers, as it is to the founding principles of our country. We stand in solidarity with PYM and our neighbors.

Places of worship have a tradition of being safe spaces for all who want to come together in the presence of the Divine Spirit. The experience of connecting with the divine is strong when individuals can worship together without fear of abduction. The religious community is deeply harmed when any person worries about attending worship.

Quakertown Monthly Meeting is located at 290 White Bridge Road in Pittstown and meets every Sunday for worship at 10:30 am. For questions, QMM can be contacted via email at quakertownfriends@gmail.com or at 908-899-1708. The website address is https://www.quakertownfriendsmeeting.org.
